Abstract

Recent advances in Internet technologies, infrastructure and services enabled development of highly intelligent management systems utilising low cost Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller units (MCUs), which interact with various Internet servers to achieve the system’s objectives. This paper details such a development, aimed at reducing energy waste of an industrial process equipment. The prototype is based on an ESP32 MCU, which interacts with an MQTT (Adafruit IO), time (NTP) and weather forecast (UK Met Office’s Datapoint) cloud servers, and features low costs for both off-the-shelf hardware and cloud maintenance.
